Adoption can be a challenging but beautiful choice to make. Through adoption, you can continue pursuing your goals while providing a loving family for your child. Adoption might be the best choice for you, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy. Loving your baby enough to choose adoption is a challenging but rewarding sacrifice.

Adoption Within Your Family

If you don’t feel like parenting is an option for you but still want to know your baby and be a part of their life, allowing a member of your family to adopt them might be your best option. You will get the chance to watch your child grow and know that your baby is well cared for. Family members are eligible as adoptive parents when they are 18 years old. The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) will oversee the adoption. You and the family member adopting your baby will determine what kind of contact is appropriate for everyone involved.

Adoption outside your family

If no one in your family is able to adopt your child, CPFSA will place your child with parents on their waiting list. Your child can be placed for adoption from the time they are six weeks old through 18 years. CPFSA will ensure that your child is adopted into a loving family that meets their requirements. They will oversee the family for three months before the adoption becomes finalized. You will have the chance to change your mind until the adoption is finalized. Adoptions in Jamaica are closed, meaning the adoptive family will not be given any of your personal information, and their information will remain confidential.
